Movement coordination

Overview
Section titled “Overview”Movement coordination is the skill of making different body parts work together at the right time. In many exercises the parts act at the same time but independently, each doing its own job. Coordination is also what turns available strength into clean movement, since having the strength for an exercise does not by itself mean the movement works.
Coordination applies to strength work as well: lifting a bar well requires the hips, spine, posture, and shoulders to work together, and doing so makes the lift develop faster. Coordination is also trainable: cross variations develop it very well, and moving from a clean cartwheel toward skills like the no-hand cartwheel helps the body adapt to higher-coordination movements.
Coordinating the upper and lower body
Section titled “Coordinating the upper and lower body”In the crunch, pull equally from both directions so the movement meets in the middle; do not rely only on the leg pull.
For the reverse direction, use the reverse crunch: keep the upper body in place, draw the legs toward the torso, and use the hands for balance.
In the alternating crunch, keep the hands behind the head and the feet raised, lift the body only slightly, and alternate the left and right knees so each knee meets the opposite elbow in the middle.
When pulling one knee in, keep the other knee from lifting with it.
From the push-up position, draw in the right foot and then the left, pulling the body up from the floor as much as possible, as in the frog movement.
To rise out of a low position, initiate with the elbows. The feet only help and should not supply the lifting force. Bend the knees, move slowly, and remember that if you shift backward the feet change position.
Sit-up coordination
Section titled “Sit-up coordination”In the sit-up, keep the feet planted and lift only the upper body, letting the ribs move toward the pelvis. Lift forward without bending, keep the arms straight, and touch the calves or the feet from the heel area. Use a little speed but not too much, and do not push with the hands.
The foot tends to lift by itself as soon as the body starts to rise, even while the torso is still low and the ribs have only just moved toward the pelvis.
Matching hands and feet
Section titled “Matching hands and feet”In transitions where a hand and a foot change places, the foot should leave as the hand arrives. If the hand arrives late, the movement sticks in the middle. Match the foot swing and the jump so the transition stays quick and fluid.
To get up from the floor, lift the foot at the same time the hands reach the floor; do not place the hand down first. Keep them aligned and use the swing, and the rise becomes much easier.
Do not forget the swing or the push; time them so they come at the same speed as you rise.
When reaching, put the tip of the toe down first, then step while continuing to reach and lengthen.
Transitions and descents
Section titled “Transitions and descents”Coming down from the wall, keep one foot in place while lowering the other. Keep the hands on the floor and bring the feet down one at a time.
When descending into the lame-dog position, do not release both feet or drop the knee. Keep one leg engaged and descend into the position from the side.
In the handstand transition, push through the arms, raise the hips, and bring the feet in.
Let the elbows move with the body. As you lower, the elbows begin lowering too; when the two move together, going up and coming down both become easier and you settle softly.
Begin the elbow transition during the descent rather than after fully landing. Start with the elbows at ninety degrees and move them downward around the middle of the descent; done slowly, this makes the halfway position easier to hold and the rotation easy.
Turns and rotations
Section titled “Turns and rotations”When turning, extend the arm. Moving out with the same arms during the turn confuses orientation and starts a spin like a top.
In the twisted push-up, turn the lower body first and a little faster, keep the arm action slightly slow, and then catch. Turning the whole body at once is harder.
In the bar turn, transfer your weight promptly and do not wait too long, do not use the feet too much, and turn the whole body together. If the weight shift makes you open up, fear of falling appears and makes you swing.
In the Arnold press, hold the weight at the chest, lift it from the chest, and then rotate it upward.
Start the rotation around the middle of the lift, not after the weight is fully upright.
Coordination drills
Section titled “Coordination drills”In the walking drill, carry the chest forward, watch the feet closely, bring the elbows in gradually, walk, and then rise.
Moving forward and backward while passing the rope, and changing the arm speed between faster and slower, develops coordination and makes a good warm-up.
When adding arm variations to a footwork pattern, keep the step sequence the same and change only the arms from side to side. With the steps stable, you will relax.
To build a jump variation, practice one of each rather than putting four of them in the middle. Start with two regular jumps, then one right and one left; the pattern settles into coordination.
In the cartwheel, use the same lead-foot logic as the handstand: come up with the right foot and land on the right foot again on the way down, with the left foot going behind.
In the floor variation, lie down as in the halo with the hands on the floor, lift the hips in a circle, and let the movement pass in front.
Further guidance
Section titled “Further guidance”Coordinate the hand and foot at the same time during both entry and exit. Do not move the hand first and the foot afterward. Moving them together keeps the movement fast. For a handstand entry, approach from above, place the hand as far down as possible, and keep the hand and foot swings at the same level at the same time. Coordinating the legs with the movement can make it easier. When the leg timing is off, too much load shifts to the arms and the movement turns into a pull-up.
Coordination improves with practice. A well-coordinated mover can pick up unfamiliar movements quickly, and new skills feel tiring at first because the body recruits more muscles than the movement needs.
Movement coordination is the ability to move the whole body together in a single timed action. Skills such as the handstand and planche are integrated whole-body movements, and staying upright in them depends on strength, coordination, and balance. Handstand practice is one of the fastest ways to develop motor skills and the body’s coordination system.
Coordination also means staying controlled while the body is in motion. Dynamic handstand turns keep you balanced while you rotate through 360 degrees, and the body continuously searches for the balance points. This kind of practice builds coordination and works well as a warm-up.
Movement coordination is the timing and synchronization of the arms and legs so they move together. Small timing errors can slow an airborne movement, so the arms and legs need to move in step.
The same logic applies to the hips and arms, which should be coordinated instead of letting one part move ahead of the other.
Performing the skill itself is what develops the coordination system; strength and suitable physical attributes do not replace skill-specific practice. Muscle size alone does not ensure static-hold ability, as nervous-system development and coordination are also required.
With greater coordination, you can control more muscles. A handstand is a coordination-demanding movement, and handstand practice is used mainly to develop coordination and keep the skill available. Jump-rope practice helps keep coordination from getting lost, and ball work trains coordination and balance.
Movement coordination alternates opposing open and closed positions of the arms and feet while keeping tension in the fingers, knees, and toes. It also coordinates one leg and one arm while keeping the body fully stable and eliminating swinging. The goal is to maintain symmetrical stabilization so both sides move evenly.
Footwork patterns
Section titled “Footwork patterns”Several skills ask you to move the feet one at a time. In a handstand-like transition, pass the feet sequentially instead of joining them overhead. Descend from a handstand the same way, one leg at a time. Cartwheel footwork follows the same idea, with the feet moving one at a time, the trailing foot staying behind, and the feet kept open.
The cartwheel and the Randolph variation differ in their leg action. In the cartwheel, one foot lands and the other comes to the side. In the Randolph variation, both feet meet in the air before you exit.
The airwalk uses a different finish. After the leading foot reaches its final point, draw the other foot in quickly so both feet arrive together and rise. This follows the same logic as a cartwheel.
Coordinating hands and feet
Section titled “Coordinating hands and feet”Coordinate the hand and foot at the same time during both entry and exit. Do not move the hand first and the foot afterward. Moving them together keeps the movement fast. For a handstand entry, approach from above, place the hand as far down as possible, and keep the hand and foot swings at the same level at the same time.
Coordinate the torso lift with foot contact so the body is level at landing. If the foot lands while the torso stays low, the rep does not count.
During a handstand rise, raise the arms together with the body and then lower them. Practice this coordination until it becomes a habit.
When moving forward to catch a point, pushing through the hand and then straightening the feet is a good sequence.
Turning and exiting
Section titled “Turning and exiting”Do not begin turning too early. Move forward and turn only at the final point, using the rear leg actively to exit quickly. Early turning makes the body harder to control and harder to return to its normal position.
Avoid sliding when you step. Coordinate the step, heel placement, exit, and body turn as one sequence.
During the turn, bring the head close to the knees or feet so the shoulder can turn the body.
Body as one unit
Section titled “Body as one unit”In the hollow-body movement, keep the body as one connected unit with a soft, controlled arch. Do not perform a sit-up and do not strike hard into the movement. Think of one piece gently springing at the target point.
Jumping and airwalk coordination
Section titled “Jumping and airwalk coordination”In the jumping jack, move both feet together and coordinate the arm movement with them, bringing the hands together overhead. Opening the arms while closing the legs is a coordination error.
For the jumping variation of the airwalk, use a running position, jump and land, then lightly touch the knee twice.
A higher rise depends on synchronizing three points: the planted-foot push, the leg swing, and the supporting-hand push. These three must act at the same time.
Lead with the swinging foot, keep the hips lifted, and avoid sitting on the floor during the movement. Using the arms during the airwalk helps coordination.
When jump coordination changes after initially successful repetitions, the movement loses its rhythm or adjustment.
Muscle-up timing
Section titled “Muscle-up timing”For the muscle-up, timing and coordination matter alongside strength. Correct timing makes the movement easier to complete. When the leg timing is off, too much load shifts to the arms and the movement turns into a pull-up.
Use the L position of the legs and correct the timing so the feet do not lag behind the upward rise. Coordinating the legs with the movement can make it easier. Open forward and pull with the arm together with the leg so the movement does not turn into a standard pull-up.
Coordination in specific movements
Section titled “Coordination in specific movements”In Soldier Slow, keep the arms in a running-like position. Do not raise them early or too high.
While moving sideways, keep one foot engaged, step and bend with the other foot, then rise without rotating the body.
Position the bars at the sides with their joining point in front. Raise them to chest height, open them diagonally from the chest, and lower them close to the body so they meet at chest level. Keep them from rising above that level.
Arm circles used for ring movements involve raising the arms, completing the circle, and returning to the starting point.
Boxing footwork can include controlled forward-and-backward walking across the mat.
Enter the rope movement from above in a single coordinated hand-foot action. As the two hands come down, one foot lifts. This conserves energy.
Learning and efficiency
Section titled “Learning and efficiency”New movements initially cause extra fatigue because more muscles are recruited. As you learn the movement, you control which muscles you use and can last longer.
Highly developed movement coordination can enable rapid learning of unfamiliar movements.
Handstand-to-elbow transitions are good balance and coordination exercises.
Whole-body coordination
Section titled “Whole-body coordination”Most coordination corrections come down to moving the body as one unit. In the half-pull-up front-pack drill, the whole body should travel with the torso; leading with the head or upper body leaves the lower body behind. In the back salto, the arms move backward and the legs draw inward while the body keeps its shape and the flow stays continuous. In pressing movements, the chest is one part of the coordinated action, and the whole body participates.
Coordination also explains why some strong athletes cannot hold certain positions. The planche depends on balance and coordination in addition to muscular strength, and strong muscles alone may not guarantee the hold. The klenç movement uses its own balance strategy built on shoulder and arm coordination. In the handstand, brief touches during a hold often come from coordination losses rather than a lack of strength, and repeated practice removes them.
Timing the arms and legs together
Section titled “Timing the arms and legs together”Several skills depend on precise timing between the arms and the legs. In the backflip, the arm swing and the jump happen at the same time; if the arms move after the jump, they cannot contribute. From there you pull in and hold the knees, then open them for the landing. A backflip progression teaches the same order in parts: arms forward first, then pull and hold the leg, open at the same time, and land.
The same simultaneity appears in other movements. The push-off leg and the swinging leg must act together, because a delay in one part can bring you back down. When jumping into a tucked position, coordinate the arms with the jump and pull the leg in as far as possible. On the bar, drive both elbows at the same time, and coordinate the leg tuck and kick with the elbow drive to make the muscle-up ascent easier. In the double Russian version, lift both sides at the same time.
Leg coordination patterns
Section titled “Leg coordination patterns”Swings and tuck entries are built on controlled leg positions. This swing variation consists of lifting the legs, opening and closing them, without adding a dip. The legs can open in front and, on the return, slightly behind. After coming out of a tuck, the legs can open at a different point while the body still rises vertically. For a tuck entry on parallettes, bring the feet forward, then draw and lift the legs with a folding action.
Scissoring and floor movements have their own coordination details. In scissors, use an open-leg position, control it, and then close the legs. During the entry, keep one leg from passing the other so the jumping and pulling legs do not switch roles. The knee-pull movement uses the hands for balance, draws the knees inward, keeps the back grounded, and tucks the chin. The Bicycle movement should be performed with a genuine pedaling action, as if turning a pedal. In the air, bring each knee toward the same-side elbow and catch it.
Transitions into push-ups also have coordination details. When lowering into a push-up, move both feet at the same time, without stepping. During a jump-and-push-up combination, bring the knees up and hold them before moving into the push-up, and keep the knees up while jumping as you continue.
Drills that combine arms and legs
Section titled “Drills that combine arms and legs”Some drills coordinate the arms and legs through a repeated path. The circular movement travels from the far left through a circular path to the far right, alternating contact with the sides and back while both arms stay close beside the legs. The jackknife variation alternates between an open position and a tucked position with the arms and feet raised, and the movement involves the abdominal area.
Other combinations link an upper-body action to a leg action. Draw one foot toward yourself while opening the other. A supported cross-body dumbbell rise starts with one dumbbell held above chest height: angle the opposite leg, support yourself with the other hand, work the inner abdomen, and optionally press the feet into the floor. In a push-up variation, raise one elbow and alternate the arm between repetitions. Another sequence combines elevated feet, a forward lean, a push-up, and drawing the feet inward.
Developing coordination in training
Section titled “Developing coordination in training”Coordination improves through deliberate preparation and repeated practice. Before practicing a swing, do a preparatory catching-swing drill to rehearse the coordination, and group related movements together; the swing then becomes easier. Using excessive force can make it harder to coordinate the jump or swing, and that difficulty is normal at first. A bar skill that involves swings, rotations, and catches is partly a matter of coordination.
Some exercises are chosen specifically for their coordination value. Russian dips are useful for muscle-ups and also develop strength and coordination. Holding the top of a pull-up without lowering is important for swing training, general speed control, and coordination.
Coordinating arms and legs
Section titled “Coordinating arms and legs”In a reverse burpee, stand up, jump upward while pulling the knees, keep the body straight, and hold the arms behind the body.
When jumping, bring the knees upward and coordinate the arms.
Cartwheel technique
Section titled “Cartwheel technique”In a cartwheel, place the right hand, then the left hand, then a foot on the ground. Match the leading hand to the leading foot on the same side.
Raise the arms as the foot begins to descend, and coordinate the body lift with the final foot landing. As you rise, push against the floor rather than initiating the movement from the lower back.
Enter the cartwheel straight rather than turning at the start; rotate only near the wall or ground. Place the hands in the center, reach forward, and rotate the waist. Keep the arms aligned at the shoulders, use both arms for takeoff, and complete the body twist before reaching the floor.
For a side entry, reach forward, progressively increase the rotation while bringing the limbs closer, and turn slightly during entry. A roundoff involves more turning, while a cartwheel brings the limbs closer together; holding the arms too wide can cause the limbs to rise one at a time.
Hip and arm coordination
Section titled “Hip and arm coordination”Coordinate the hips and arms instead of sending the hips forward ahead of the arms.
In the bridge movement, the relevant body segments should bend together rather than sequentially. Keep the hips forward and arms back, initiating the movement with the arms.
Upper body and leg opening
Section titled “Upper body and leg opening”Coordinate the upper-body and leg opening at the same level to maintain alignment and reduce balance compensations. Open the upper body together with the legs rather than opening the legs first.
Open the upper body simultaneously while keeping the chest from opening too much; raise only the upper body to maintain balance.
In the back lever entry, pass through from inside, bring the hips through quickly, keep the feet open without excessive separation, and lean onto the scapula. During the transition, let the hips pass first, then narrow the angle while avoiding a bridge.
Coordinating other movements
Section titled “Coordinating other movements”During the cross punch, bring the limbs together at the center so the fingertips touch and the knees touch the tips of the elbows. In a cross crunch, keep the feet on the floor and bring the right elbow to the left knee.
For a single-leg extension, start with both legs raised, extend one leg, return it beside the other, then extend the opposite leg.
Roll, extend the legs vertically, roll back, and descend. Practice moving the leg backward and forward while keeping the body stable and facing forward; only the leg should move.
In this pull-up variation, pull from an open position, close at the indicated point, move back, then come out closed and open again on the return. During the 540-degree skin, keep the knees together and maintain continuous wing-to-arm contact; breaking that contact is a technical problem.
The Star uses a tense body with the feet apart and alternates between open and closed positions. Pull Knee involves hip elevation and leg work.
In the demonstrated cross movement, continuously rotate the waist, move upward diagonally, and fully bend the body. For faster Hook footwork, open the leg with trunk rotation and keep the waist elevated instead of reaching too far forward or collapsing.
Coordinate the hips moving backward and forward with the dumbbell moving up and down. In the circle movement, placing the hand slightly later while going backward can still save the movement.
Push-up and handstand push-up technique involves interconnected joint actions, including shortening and lengthening.
Coordination over strength
Section titled “Coordination over strength”Having strong muscles and suitable physical attributes does not guarantee that you can perform a skill. Even with all the muscles needed for a backflip or a handstand, you may still fail if you have never practiced the movement. Theory and practice do not always match, and performing the skill itself is what develops the coordination system. Repeated practice then builds on that foundation.
The same applies to static holds. Large, well-built athletes can shake and fail to hold a position for even a second when their nervous system and coordination are underdeveloped.
Footwork and stepping
Section titled “Footwork and stepping”For this footwork, even steps are better, and the important thing is to complete the circular path. When stepping forward, raise the arm on the same side as the grounded knee, one side at a time. In a jumping jack, the arms and legs open at the same time. In another jumping variation, start with the feet together, make a small jump, bring the hands together at the middle of the chest, and open the feet at the same time, keeping the elbows directed backward. Coordinate the opening and closing of the feet and hands, starting with the feet together.
Several movements pair a limb with its same-side partner. Bring the foot on the same side onto the corresponding hand. If you raise the right arm, place the right foot, and do the same on the left. Keep the foot forward throughout, avoid letting it swing or move too diagonally, and stay in control. To enter a running position, pull the left leg farther and draw the arm backward first. The squat-based knee-drive movement combines an active knee pull with moving backward into a squat; in the high-knee version, the leg naturally returns backward.
Push-up and floor variations
Section titled “Push-up and floor variations”During an ascent, keep the body moving as one unit with the upper body rising together. For the inward tuck, keep both hands on the floor, draw both legs in together without rising into a burpee, briefly hold, and return. The reverse-burpee variation uses a hands-free descent and a hip-lifting rise driven by pulling the feet inward.
The rabbit push-up combines a push-up with a simultaneous forward-and-back movement of both feet while the knees remain together. A rotating push-up can use the foot as a pivot while the hand follows a quarter-circle path. For the plank-hop variation, support yourself on your hands, draw the knees inward, and then extend them. The plank draw-in is performed from a hands-supported plank by drawing both legs inward without adding a push-up. A push-up variation combines arm opening with moving from one arm to the other side.
In the push-up sequence, lower into the second push-up and extend the hands while the chest is on the floor. During a cross crunch, lift the torso with side bending and rotation. The mountain variation combines reaching outward with drawing the knees inward. For the alternating mountain movement, draw the knees inward, keep the arms active and coordinated, and use a normal, controlled speed. In the wave movement, keep the knees and hips off the floor with the chest elevated, move inward in a wave so the chest comes close, then push and return without pushing from a hips-and-back position. During the circle exit, descend normally first and bend the knees only afterward.
Static holds and descents
Section titled “Static holds and descents”When straightening a front lever, move the feet and upper body backward together as one. During a descent, allow the body to follow its natural path, draw the legs inward, and move slowly toward the fingertips. Coordinate the body and elbow descent; lowering the elbows late creates rapid acceleration. In the swaying movement, lower the right shoulder, then pull so the left shoulder lowers. The lateral movement uses one arm for support while the other shoulder opens sideways. The chin-up pullover combines lifting and pulling with a pushing action that should remain consistent through the movement.
In the archer or typewriter variation, extend one hand while approaching the opposite side, maintain a light push from above, and keep the movement fluid. Approach the wing with the non-extended hand.
Coordination principles
Section titled “Coordination principles”Jump-rope practice helps keep coordination from getting lost, and ball work can be used to train coordination and balance. A pullover has a coordination aspect: you coordinate its steps in sequence, although the coordination demand is not very high.
Muscle-up and bar movements
Section titled “Muscle-up and bar movements”Work toward making the muscle-up one integrated movement at both slow and fast speeds, using the muscles that a two-part pull-then-push version leaves unused. The speed of the movement should not change the goal. During the descent, begin bringing the elbows backward instead of leaving them in place. In the slow muscle-up, use light foot assistance during the ascent, move slowly, and lower the body and elbows together.
The same idea applies to the front-lever descent: coordinate the elbow and body descent instead of allowing an abrupt drop. For the movement transcribed as “dissection,” the descent follows the circle pattern: rotate the waist toward the circle before going fully backward. For the reverse flag, hold both rings, transfer toward one side, draw inward, and rotate.
Mobility and rotation sequences
Section titled “Mobility and rotation sequences”Several mobility drills are built around sequencing. Use a staged rotation: keep the chest from lowering, rotate the feet first, then add the chest and waist in sequence. In the wall drill, open the arm on the wall side first, then open the opposite arm to complete the movement. In the circle variation, move both feet through a full bottom-to-top circle while keeping the knees together and the upper body still.
The Scorpion movement uses a one-leg inward-and-backward action together with active shoulder and scapular engagement. For the Scorpion sequence, use a full grip, bend the lifted leg inward while moving forward, and then open the leg outward. In a spinal wave, initiate the movement with the head and let the rest of the body follow. As the leg moves forward, coordinate foot tension and bending differently, reversing the action when the foot reaches the front.
Jump and conditioning coordination
Section titled “Jump and conditioning coordination”Perform the jump as a normal jump, pulling the knees toward the abdomen, and do not turn it into a burpee. For the Soldier drill, keep the arms open, switch in the air while jumping, and stay in the same spot. In a backward double-foot jump, coordinate simultaneous takeoff and landing with both feet.
For the arm jump, open the arms, jump, close them, and land in the same way. A dynamic lateral Russian Twist variation uses a jump and right-left opening. Coordinate the movement by opening and closing the arms and feet in opposite phases.
Floor and core movements
Section titled “Floor and core movements”For the spoken “Pull Leg” movement, lie back with straight legs, draw yourself inward, extend, and lift the hips. Lift the hips while drawing the knees inward, keeping the hands fixed on the floor. The supine Rise Up involves keeping the hips on the floor, lifting the knees, and drawing them inward toward the body. This jackknife variation keeps both feet elevated and alternates the leg pulls.
For this core movement, thread one foot forward through the space between the other foot and hand, alternating sides. From a push-up position, draw one foot forward through the gap, return it, switch sides, and reach as far forward as possible. Keep the feet stable, move backward and forward from the push-up position, and come into the push-up position first before continuing.
In a one-foot-raised push-up, move the hips down and up nearly together without crossing, keeping the raised leg behind. The Inchworm involves moving into a plank and repeatedly rising back up. The chest movement should occur together with the abdomen. A movement can be performed as a whole-body version or a hip-driven version. With the knee bent, pull it, then extend the leg afterward.
In this two-sided movement, extend and retract one side at a time, reducing the range if preferred. When rising while holding dumbbells, bring the feet in together or one at a time as a potentially more practical alternative to standing up directly.
Opposite-limb coordination
Section titled “Opposite-limb coordination”One drill alternates opposing open and closed positions: arms open while the feet are closed, then feet open while the arms are closed. Keep tension in the fingers and knees throughout. Keep the toes tense as well. The pattern is done in pairs, with 20 repetitions.
Lateral side changes
Section titled “Lateral side changes”Switch sides with light lateral jumps, rising before changing sides and lowering afterward. Move slowly and do not speed up; fully lift the body before changing sides and return to the same point. Sixteen repetitions are enough.
Back rounding and rising
Section titled “Back rounding and rising”Round the back slightly while pushing and moving backward, then open as you come forward to rise.
Bar movement
Section titled “Bar movement”For the bar movement, first pass through the bar. Then extend the body and retract it. Afterward, reposition the feet and pause before moving backward and forward from an upright position.
Arm coordination
Section titled “Arm coordination”Keep the arm movement coordinated by moving the arms backward in the airborne phase and then from back to front. Another movement uses arm tension in an inward-and-backward sequence, with the head moving inward and the feet moving backward before returning inward.
Push-up variations
Section titled “Push-up variations”The Hindu push-up uses an inward-and-backward movement sequence. In the Tiger Bend push-up, keep the feet fixed and coordinate the rise while moving between the elbows and hands. The wave push-up is a snake-like movement followed by moving directly backward; initiate the wave downward before rising.
In the Heel push-up, rotate the torso sideways, reach one arm upward, look at the supporting hand, open the chest and shoulder, hold briefly, then return to the push-up and alternate sides. This develops core and shoulder stability.
Ladder and invisible staircase
Section titled “Ladder and invisible staircase”Practice the coordination drill one leg at a time with a rigid body, one leg flexed and the other pointed as if stepping onto an imagined step. Perform the sequence of raising the body, lowering it, and bringing the leg through as if on an invisible staircase.
Use the ladder as support, ascend with straight feet and the chin above the reference point, descend the same way, and alternate the starting foot between turns. Coordinate one leg and one arm while keeping the body fully stable and eliminating swinging.
Symmetry and stabilization
Section titled “Symmetry and stabilization”Keep the two sides level and synchronized, treating them as one bar. Maintain symmetrical stabilization so both sides move evenly; improving this symmetry is the goal.
Floor core movement
Section titled “Floor core movement”In the floor core movement, draw the abdomen in, extend the legs, lift the hips, and pull the legs back in quickly.
