Clap Push-up
These notes combine advice from 5 reviewed passages across 4 workouts.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The clap push-up is an explosive push-up skill. Use enough force for the arm’s separation from the floor to be clearly visible, and use an easier lower clap variation when learning the mechanics of the full movement.
Learning progression
Section titled “Learning progression”During set-based practice, rise slightly higher in one set, then practice adding the clap in a later set. This keeps the extra height and the clap tied to their assigned stages of practice.
Under-knee variation
Section titled “Under-knee variation”For the under-knee clap push-up, keep the body straight. Extend the foot and clap beneath the body as one brief explosive action rather than allowing the position to linger.
Programming and safety
Section titled “Programming and safety”Under the stated workout counting convention, a jump-and-clap push-up counts as two push-ups only when the arm visibly leaves the ground.
